English Phonetics and Phonology is a course designed to introduce
students to the sounds and sound patterns of the English language. This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding
of human speech sounds and the sound
system of English language. It will cover the basic principles of
phonetics, including the classification
of speech sounds, articulatory phonetics, and the transcription of speech sounds using the International
Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).
Through this course, students will learn about the articulation,
production, and transcription of speech
sounds, as well as the patterns and rules governing the English speech sounds.
Students will also learn how to analyze and describe the sounds and the sound patterns of English words and
sentences. Throughout the course, students
will develop their analytical skills by applying phonetic and
phonological concepts to real-world examples of English speech. In addition,
students will engage in various hands-on
activities, including transcription exercises, speech analysis, and
recordings of their own speech.
